Nantucket Baskets

This page will show the Nantucket baskets I sell. I have been selling these baskets for several years and they are the perfect answer if you are looking for an inexpensive repro of the $2000.00 originals.The baskets begin as a typical reproduction in a natural finish from this point it is transformed into a very unique basket that will set it apart from all the others. I stain the basket with minwax antique or provincial oak stain which gives the basket a natural antique look. if you like a lighter look a nice golden pecan stain fits nicely. The top is then sanded smooth and a matching or contrasting stain is applied. Next stage is two coats of Helmsman Spar Clear Satin urethane for protection against the weather. The scrimshaw top of your choice is then attached and sealed. we do not use ivory so this basket can be shipped without restrictions. The tops are available in color or black and are finely detailed to simulate hand etched scrimshaw. I have been a scrimshaw artist for over 35 years and can say the quality of this basket is one of the best on the market considering the price range.

About The Basket: As shown the standard basket measures 10" across the knob pins and 9 1/4" across the rim The basket is 7 1/4" high top to bottom and overall 12 1/2" high with handle up. The basket has the traditional staves and natural woven cane. The rim is doubled lashed and finished with brass pins all around for durability. The handle is attached with simulated ivory knobs and washers so it will swing easily. The top hinges and closure loop are leather wrapped with cane and the closure pin is simulated ivory. This is indeed a very fine basket made of high quality materials. Our baskets have a beautiful finish and I think you will agree as you fit our basket over your arm..
